Addition is putting numbers together.
Let's learn how to add 0, 1 and 2 to any number!
Tip: we'll use a number line to help.
Adding 0 to a number doesn't change the number.
1 + 0 = 1
When you add 0 to 1, the answer is still 1.
You did not move forward on the number line.
Here's another example:
15 + 0 = 15
Adding zero doesn't change the number.
Now, what if we do this:
0 + 15 = ?
15 + 0 and 0 + 15 are the same!
They both equal 15. 😉
Tip: In addition, you can switch the order of addends.
Adding 1 to a number means counting up by 1 from that number.
3 + 1 = 4
Can you quickly answer 14 + 1?
You're right! It's 15.
What about 17 + 1?
It's 18!
Adding 2 to a number is like counting up by 2.
1 + 2 = 3
You move 2 steps up from 1 on the number line.
Can you figure out 8 + 2?
You're right! It's 10.
What about 16 + 2?
It's 18!
Great work! 🎉
Now, try the practice. It'll help remember for longer.
