An ordinal number tells us the position or order of something within a group.
First, second and third are the most common ordinal numbers.
Linda won first place. 🥇
Kevin won second place. 🥈
George won third place. 🥉
Tip: You can also write first as 1st, second as 2nd, and third as 3rd.
All ordinal numbers end in either:
-st, -nd, or -rd
When do you use each ending? 🤔
If a number ends in 1, add -st.
For example:
first or 1st, 41st, 121st.
If a number ends in 2, add -nd. For example:
2nd, 82nd, 262nd
If a number ends in 3, add -rd at the end. Take a look:
3rd, 73rd, 143rd
For numbers not ending in 1, 2, or 3, add -th at the end.

Seventh - 7th
Eighth - 8th
