A pattern is the way objects are arranged, or laid out, based on a rule.
So far, you've learned about repeating patterns.
In repeating patterns, the terms, or objects of the pattern, repeat over and over.
Here are examples of repeating patterns:
Some patterns don't repeat their terms:
👆 These are called growing patterns!
Growing patterns have terms that grow as the pattern grows.
Can you see the rule for this growing pattern? 👇
A simple way to describe it is:
Add 1 extra heart after each triangle.
Every time you skip count, you make a growing pattern.
Counting by 1
0, 1, 2, 3, ...
👆 This is a growing pattern. The terms don't repeat.
Skip counting by 2
2, 4, 6, 8, 10...
1, 3, 5, 7, 9...
These are growing patterns too. 👍
Skip counting by 5
5, 10, 15, 20, 25
Skip counting by 25
25, 50, 75, 100, 125...
👆 These are all growing patterns!
Now, complete the practice to become a patterns master.
Have fun! 🎉😀
