In an earlier lesson, you learned about is and are.
๐ Is and Are tell about nouns in the present.
For example:
She is happy. They are being loving.
Now, letโs look at special verbs that tell about nouns in the past.
ย ย ย ย ย Was tells about one noun in the past.
ย ย ย ย ย Were tells about more than one noun in the past.
Letโs look at some examples:
She was home.
They were at school.
ย ย ย ย ย Use 'was' when talking about one thing, and 'were' when talking about more than one thing. ๐
Now let's try using was and were!
Which word should you use, was or were?
The birds _____ in the garden yesterday.
๐ Use Were! There is more than one bird.
The birds were in the garden yesterday.
How about this sentence?
Eva ____ with her mom this morning.
๐ Use Was! There is only one Eva.
Last year, my backpack ____ green.
๐ Use Was! There is only one backpack.
The cups _____ empty after dinner.
๐ Use Were! There is more than one cup!ย
Great work! ๐บ Now you know the difference between was and were.ย
That was fun ๐. Now start the practice!
